Joshua Roy

Skills Summary

“Roy is a shooter plain and simple. He leads all draft eligibles in goals (9) and is 2nd in the entire QMJHL in shots (almost 5 shots a game). He likes to battle along the boards and has terrific hands around the net. His playmaking is also high-end. He has a high hockey IQ so is capable of making some terrific passes. However, his skating his below average and is a huge concern from a scouting perspective. He just doesn’t have much strength in his stride & his top speed is needs a lot of work. Plus, he doesn’t appear to work nearly hard enough away from the puck and in the defensive zone.

“Roy was the 1st overall pick in the 2019 QMJHL draft, but he’s definitely not the best NHL prospect for this draft. Much like L’Heureux, there are some real nice offensive traits but also some glaring weaknesses. Bottom line, Roy has some nice tools but the red flags are going to scare away NHL teams.”
