The WHL regular season is officially over. It was in fact over for several of the leagues 2020 draft eligibles weeks ago with the commence of the U18 tournament, in which Canada won the Gold Medal. Dylan Guenther, Logan Stankoven, Conner Roulette, Olen Zellweger, Noah Allan & Thomas Milic all participated for Canada.
While that tournament was under way, there were a few other draft eligibles who picked up their production and likely boosted their draft stock late. The three biggest benefactors were Caedan Bankier, Sean Tschigerl and Trevor Wong.
Caedan Bankier, finished the WHL season with the 2nd most points technically, behind only Dylan Guenther. While he averaged a point per game (23 pts in 22 GP), he actually went pointless in 9 different contests. Bankier, a 6’2″, 192 lb center, had 75 shots on goal and was a respectable 48.8% in the faceoff dot.
Sean Tschigerl finished with the most goals in the WHL this season for draft eligibles with 13. He started the season with goals in back to back games then went 7 games with only 1 assist. However, he finished the season strong with a 12 game point scoring streak in which he scored 11 goals & 18 points.
He only played 16 games, but Trevor Wong was one of the most dynamic players to follow in the WHL this season. He’s only 5’8″, 154 lbs but his game is very reminiscent of a young Taylor Hall stylistically. That of course is only Junior though. It remains to be seen if Wong‘s size & stature will limit him at the next level but there’s not doubting the talent. Wong can absolutely wire the puck and has a terrific work ethic so he should be an attractive option in the 2nd-3rd round of the NHL draft if a team is willing to bet on skill.

Overall, it is a really talented group with seems to have some good depth too it. Guenther & Cossa are the gems of this class and surefire 1st round picks. Logan Stankoven, Ryder Korczak and Olen Zellweger have a chance to be too. But there is also a real intriguing group of potential mid round picks that includes: Colton Dach, Jake Chiasson, Eric Alarie, Sean Tschigerl, Zack Stringer, Zack Ostapchuk – all of whom who are bigger guys and can put the puck in the net.
