OHL

After briefly relinquishing the OHL scoring lead to Cole Perfetti, Marco Rossi had a big week and quickly re-established himself as the Top OHL‘er this season. Rossi, has FOUR 3-point games in the last 5 GP. Meanwhile, his teammate Jack Quinn also has been on a tear and has now passed Quinton Byfield in points (Quinn has played 9 more games).

After them, Tyson Foerster and Ty Tullio continue to produce. Both look like 2nd rd picks right now. Meanwhile, James Hardie continues his scorching hot stretch. Since January 5th, Hardie has 16 goals & 30 points in only 14 GP. He also has a ridiculous 70 shots in those 14 GP. Once thought of as a sleeper mid round pick, he is knocking on the door of the 2nd round as well.

After that, Ethan Cardwell of Barrie continues to play well since being traded to the Colts. He’s currently riding a 4 game point streak where he has registered 2 goals & 8 points in those 4 GP. He could potentially be a 4th-6th round sleeper.

Lastly, the two imports who recently signed – Martin Chromiak and Jan Mysak both continue to impress. Chromiak is getting a lot of 1st round attention kow playing with OHL rookie sensation Shane Wright. Mysak, sees his name mentioned in the Top 15 of many mock drafts and even has a chance to sneak into the Top 10 potentially if he finishes strong.

2021 Draft eligibles

~

Mason McTavish has a chance to beat Cole Perfetti‘s mark of 37 goals last year as an OHL rookie. Meanwhile, Brandt Clarke has finally been given more opportunity in Barrie and is taking advantage, scoring 3 goals & 9 points in his last 4 games. Both have legit Top 10 potential for next year’s NHL draft.

QMJHL

Mavrik Bourque had a magical game last week in which he scored 7 points in 1 game (probably could have had 10). He now is up to 71 points in 49 games and should be strongly considered as the 2nd best forward from this group along with Dawson Mercer

By now, we all know the big names from every league but if you’re looking for a mid to late round sleeper, I suggest maybe Valentin Demchenko is your guy. Demchenko, has 9 goals & 17 points in 15 games after only registering 9 points in his first 28 QMJHL games. He looks to have good speed & a big shot, though I will need to get more viewings on the player for an overall assessment. For now, consider him a late round sleeper.

Alexis Lafreniere was suspended 3 games for a headshot last week.

2021 Draft eligibles

This is really starting to look like a very strong group for the 2021 NHL Draft. Shawinigan’s Xavier Bourgault already has 30 goals and Zachary Bolduc is well on his way to hitting that mark as well.

WHL

Seth Jarvis is a man on a mission right now. After registering 28 points in 9 games (!) a couple weeks ago, he was finally held of the scoresheet last weekend against Seattle of all teams. Since then, he’s posted another 4 goals & 8 points in 3 games to remain the WHL leader in points. Connor Zary might still be considered the most well-rounded draft eligible in this league, but Jarvis could be the most dynamic. He is very active skater with a relentless motor and top end skill. Don’t be surprised to see him ranked ahead of Zary on many draft boards.

Meanwhile, Tristen Robins continued his offensive assault on the WHL and he ascends up this leaderboard. Robins, managed a slick 8 points in 2 games over the weekend and is now tied for 3rd overall for WHL draft eligibles.

Jack Finley is rising, Justin Sourdif is falling and Connor McClennon is injured.

Lukas Svejkovsky, is a highly creative playmaker for Medicine Hat and has really played well since being traded there. However, listed at 5’9″, 165 lbs and being a late 2001 birthdate, it’s expected he won’t be drafted till the later rounds of the NHL draft if he is drafted at all.

2021 Draft eligibles

It doesn’t look like there are any big-time goal scorers in here other than maybe Dylan Guenther, but at least 5 of them should hit 20 goals this season which is pretty good for 16 yr old rookies.
