Oilers week in Review 07/08-07/22
Not much has happened the last couple weeks but here is a recap:
(Transaction history courtesy of cbssports.com)
|7/16||Dillon Simpson||D||Re-Signed, One-year contract|
|7/12||Joey LaLeggia||D||Re-Signed, One-year contract|
|7/10||Yohann Auvitu||D||Signed as Free Agent, One-year contract|
07/16 – Dillon Simpson re-upping for one year was expected. Simpson, now entering his 4th year in Oilers minor league system he appears to be the first defenceman the Oilers call up from Bakersfield if an injury happens.
07/13 – Ference retiring was a no brainer. Great guy warrior type who’s broken down physically. Nice to not have to worry about that contract anymore.
07/12 – Laleggia has kind of reinvented himself in the minors. Not sure if he’ll ever have an impact at the NHL level but has some intriguing skills and is a nice depth player for now.
07/10 – Oilers sign Yohann Auvitu to a 1 yr deal. The most significant move of the last 2 weeks is likely a #7D signing. However, as we saw with Gryba last year who played a lot, Auvitu will likely get in a bunch of games and have the chance to make a big impact. There are several different opinions of this player I’ll temper expectations by saying he a nice depth addition.
Still no news on Draisaitl extension it might be a few weeks still before it gets down but I have zero concern personally of an offer sheet or him holding out. This will get done just gotta be patient.
